Each year, more than one million people in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. Whether it’s you or a loved one, choosing the right place for care is an important part of the journey to a healthy outcome.

In South Texas, CHRISTUS Spohn Health System is proud to offer the region’s only nationally recognized cancer center.

With six clinics located throughout the Coastal Bend, the CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Center and clinics are a place where oncologists and their clinicians are passionate about healing patients’ minds, bodies and spirit.

“I am excited to be a part of this wonderful community and the state-of-the-art treatment facilities at CHRISTUS Spohn,” said Dr. Shantan G. Reddy, a board-certified oncologist and the newest addition to the Cancer Center Team.

“Therapies are being developed and being made available to fight cancer now in Corpus Christi. There is no other field in medicine that is changing so rapidly,” said Reddy excitedly.

Remaining on the cutting-edge of technology and providing breakthrough treatments is something the CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Center is proud to offer in South Texas.

The CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Center is the only one in the region to offer high-dose rate (HDR) therapy, which has been proven to provide a faster course of treatment while minimizing damage to healthy tissue.

It also is the only facility in South Texas to offer the CyberKnife, which provides pain-free, non-surgical outpatient radiation treatment of brain, colon, kidney, liver, lung, pancreatic, and prostate cancers that might be inoperable.

“Our patients are special individuals, and they do not walk this path alone-Dr. Kimberly Stewart, CHRISTUS Spohn radiation oncologist

By delivering a very thin beam of radiation very accurately, the CyberKnife allows for higher doses of radiation than less focused techniques, with fewer side effects. In turn, that means patients can complete their treatment faster and in fewer doses, often requiring no hospital stay or extended rest. The Cancer Center also is proud to now offer one of the latest treatments for brain cancer, Optune TTF, which is an exciting and unique new treatment for brain tumors.

As the region’s only cancer program nationally accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, the CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Team has been recognized for their dedication to providing the best cancer care possible.

This means using the latest therapies and techniques to not onlydiagnose and treat your cancer, but also to preserve your quality of life throughout your treatment process.

But what makes the CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Center stand apart from the pack is its staff’s commitment to the Health System’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to all they are privileged to serve.

Long-time CHRISTUS Spohn radiation oncologist, Dr. Kimberly Stewart says she and her team form special bonds with those they are called to heal.

“There’s not an average patient. Each person is different, and we treat every patient as family” -Tom Enright, CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Center Director

“Our patients are special individuals, and they do not walk this path alone. I spend a lot of time with them, and we all sort of become family during the time they’re with us,” Dr. Stewart said.

As important as technology is for treating cancer, it’s the people using that technology who bring personalized care and a compassionate touch to the Cancer Center, said Tom Enright, CHRISTUS Spohn Cancer Center Director.

“There’s not an average patient. Each person is different, and we treat every patient as family,” added Enright with a smile.
