VCounselors is an online mental health counseling practice available to you from the comfort of your home or wherever you may be at the moment. VCounselors offers quality, discreet and confidential treatment for those struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties and other emotional problems. In 2019, according to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) data, 33% of people will experience some form of depression in their lifetime with less than 40% seeking help for it; which could lead them into more dangerous territory like suicide, where they have an 8-10 times greater risk. VCounselors provides comprehensive care through virtual consultation sessions, over live video chat rooms to get immediate and convenient assistance that works with your schedule.

Dr. Martha Livingston Ph.D, LPC is the founder and CEO of VCounselors and San Antonio Counseling & Behavioral Center. After teaching and being a school counselor for many years, she saw the need children have for someone who will listen without judgment or bias and help them work through emotional difficulties that are silently faced by so many young people today. This made Dr. Livingston realize this was where she could make the greatest impact on society as well as find fulfillment. One of the things that has helped Dr. Livingston relate to people so well is that she has faced many personal battles herself. At just 16 years old, she became a teenage mother and raised her daughter Melody Montano. Despite facing plenty of challenges, Dr. Livingston was able to put herself through college showing her daughter that women can be both successful and great mothers at the same time.

It’s common for there to be a lot of stigma around the need to seek mental health services. Often, people may not seek help because they have a fear of acknowledging their issue, they may feel shame about their mental health or a lack the awareness of counseling services available to them. Counseling is an opportunity to heal by speaking your mind in a safe space. Within the last year, COVID-19 has added a new level of uncertainty for many. The virus has not only led to fear of contracting it but also has shaken up what is considered normality. Job loss, homeschooling and lack of contact with others can worsen symptoms for mental health.

With the invasion of COVID-19, came a new window of opportunity for the digital age. Virtual game nights, family “get-togethers” and even physician visits have all moved to the virtual space. VCounselors has been operating virtually for many years and has had the advantage of perfecting the experience of personalized counseling through a video screen before it became a necessity. As VCounselors has continued to grow over the years, Dr. Livingston has partnered with her daughter Melody Montano to bring counseling services to everyone that needs it, including those in rural communities that would not otherwise have access.

“Growing up as a child of a therapist, I really learned about the importance of connecting with people during their darkest hour,” said Montano.
