[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he CTRC Council is offering San Antonio shoppers the opportunity to earn discounts on their purchases while supporting research by the Cancer Therapy & Research Center Council (CTRC) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

By purchasing a Partners Shopping Card from the CTRC Council, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization supporting CTRC research and patients, shoppers earn a 20 percent discount on purchases from over 350 local retailers and restaurants. The entire $50 spent on a Partners Shopping Card goes toward CTRC research programs aimed to prevent or cure cancer.

“During this 10-day shopping period, shoppers have a great opportunity to get a head start on their holiday shopping or to simply enjoy dinner in a favorite restaurant,” said Lora Watts.

“With our community purchasing these special shopping cards, the CTRC Council can assist even more patients in need.”

Since its inception more than 20 years ago, the CTRC Council’s Partners Shopping Card program has raised nearly $1.8 million. Shoppers, underwriters, and retailers alike contribute to this program, playing a key role in the CTRC’s research efforts.

Generous sponsors such as Mays Family Foundation, Valero Energy, HEB and Charline H. McCombs, underwrite production costs for the Partners Shopping Card promotion and support citywide advertising.

Over the past 30 years, the CTRC Council has donated more than $4.5 million to the patients and research of the CTRC at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Council volunteers also work with patients directly. Among other things, they provide companionship, identify support resources, and assemble clinical trial kits.
